Varicose Vein Treatments
For larger veins, first a sclerozing agent is injected into the vein in order to make it narrower and harder (sclerotherapy). This is followed by a laser or IPL application decided according to the type and grade of the problem. With this combined approach, larger problematic leg veins can be treated in one or more sessions.
In more serious cases, Endovenous Laser Treatment can be an alternative to surgery. In this technique, the veins are first examined by Doppler ultrasonography for valvular insufficiency, reflux, and grade of deformations and the course of the vein is marked on the skin surface. Following a local anesthetic, a small incision is made at the lowest part of the problem. The laser fiber is inserted into the vein. As the laser is fired, the fiber is withdrawn and eventually the vein is coagulated. The advantage of this method over surgery is that with this technique no damage is formed around the vein, no sensory dysfunctions take place, general anesthesia is not required, thus the risks are minimal and the patient can return to his/her daily activities immediately.
